Who is Wizkid?
Passionate tech geek, Go getter with an entrepreneurial mindset trying to make a difference
Aside from that, my real name is Kelvin, I was often called Wizkid growing up because I was the go-to guy when family and friends required technical assistance.
I studied BSc (Hons) Computer Networks and Systems Support at University and finished with a first class honours degree. The course had a strong focus on Cisco technologies, in particular routing and switching and just after finishing University I attained my CCNA Routing and Switching certification.
I worked as a Security Engineer for a short time, troubleshooting a wide variety of issues to do with Checkpoint, Fortinet and Juniper technologies. The exposure of a wide range of technologies was good however I wanted to specialize and working with Cisco products for 3 years already, I set off on a journey to start my career with Cisco.
Wanting to work for Cisco and transition into the security space, I found a job opening as a Cyber Security Consultant. This position was aimed at training consultants to join the Security team within Cisco and most of my time was spent at the Cisco offices training on the latest security products. Unfortunately this contract came to an abrupt end and although I had been exposed to Cisco internally for a short time I had to re-apply direct to Cisco for a Network Consulting Engineer position. Fortunately for me, I saw a position opening to join the graduate aNCE program with Cisco. Fast forward, I have now been offered the aNCE position and start early 2017, you can read more about this in my blog posts.
Where do I see myself in 5 years time?
- Well accustom to Cisco, working as an NCE
- CCIE Security, SSFIPS, CCNA Security and working towards the CISSP
- Sharing my knowledge with this wonderful community
